Outstanding Hanahan High Seniors Honored by Exchange Club

Hanahan High School students excel in academics, athletics, and a wide variety of activities.  Two times each year, the Hanahan High School teachers select four of the most outstanding students in the Senior Class to be recognized by the Hanahan Exchange Club.  They selected Nicholas Zerbst, Raven Alese Ellis, Maisa Amireh, and Kaydee L. Smith. The Hanahan Exchange Club invited these students and their families to attend a banquet in their honor on December 1, 2011. An Exchange Club Plaque was presented to each student.

Nicholas Zerbst has achieved the High Honor Roll each year and currently has the 5th highest GPA in his class. He scored high grades on his SAT and ACT and qualified for the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship. He played on the varsity baseball team each year. He was the captain his junior and senior years. He was all-region 7-AA as a sophomore and again as a junior.  He is the Student Body President and was class president for both his freshman and sophomore years. He plans to attend Clemson University in the fall of 2012 and will study Psychology. His goal is an occupation in full-time ministry.

Raven Ellis has been an Honor Roll student every quarter in high school. She is the Student Body Treasurer and the National Honor Society Treasurer. She is the Yearbook Editor, 2011 Hanahan High School Homecoming Queen, and Miss Hanahan Pageant contestant. She was a Girls State Delegate and has been active in several Ministry activities. After graduation, she plans to attend the University of South Carolina and major in Mass Communications with a minor in public relations. Her goal is to become a public relations consultant.

Maisa Amireh is currently ranked #1 in her class and expects to be Valedictorian upon graduation. She has completed training at the Charleston Aquarium and worked and volunteered since July 2011. She is fluent in English and Arabic and has been studying Spanish. She competed in a southeast regional essay contest on "What the United States Flag Stands For" and won 2nd place. She has been active in many school functions: National Honor Society (President), Student Council, Drama Club, and many others. She is considering attending the College of Charleston for a degree in Biology. She hopes to pursue a career in medicine and is interested in ophthalmology.

Kaydee L. Smith is ranked in the top 4% in her class and performed well on the SAT and ACT tests. She is a member of National Honor Society, Beta Club, Student Council, and Health Science Club. She played varsity tennis each year and was selected team captain for the 11th and 12th grades. Also, she was recognized as "Most Valuable Tennis Player" and "All Region Tennis Player". She earned a Palmetto Fellow's Scholarship and honorable mention in the biology merit exam. After graduation, Kaydee plans to attend the University of South Carolina to study nursing.
